Imagine putting together a sports team of all-stars, the best of the best, the ideal “dream team”. No matter how great they are, there is always one team that can beat them… themselves. Nothing will destroy a team quicker than internal conflict. It’s obvious that there is no “team” and everyone is just playing for themselves. Onlookers simply shake their head and lament about what could have been.
That is much the way government seems these days. There are some genuinely good people trying to do the right things, but we allow conflict to drive a division between us until nothing gets accomplished.
Vision can quickly be clouded by self-interest or downright unwillingness to listen to anyone that may disagree with our position. As legislators, we cannot allow that to happen and still expect progress toward good policy.
“When people stop talking, really bad stuff starts. When marriages stop talking, divorce happens. When civilization stops talking, civil war ensues. When you stop having a human connection with someone you disagree with, it becomes a lot easier to want to commit violence against that group.” – Charlie Kirk
It is a true honor to serve the 120th district, and every day I attempt to bring a firm, but sensible and reasonable, voice to the legislature. I always try to respectfully listen and work with anyone that is truly interested in finding a path forward for good policy.
